Om die Dam Ultra Marathon

2018 will see the 28th consecutive edition of the Old Mutual Om die Dam Ultra Marathon. The race is run under the rules of Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Athletics North-West North (ANWN).

Ultra Marathon T-Shirt

The first 4500 runners to enter the ultra marathon will receive an Old Mutual Om Die Dam Ultra T-Shirt. The T-Shirts will be handed to runners in their race pack during registration. All runners are please to ensure that they have indicated the correct size of their T-Shirt on the entry form as NO EXCHANGES will be allowed at registration.

Ultra Route

The scenic Old Mutual Om Die Dam Ultra Marathon route: The start is in the road at the entrance to Hartbeespoort Holiday resort in a south-easterly direction on the R513. After approximately 3,5km runners will turn left onto the R104 main road towards Scott street, passing under the Arch de Triumph and crossing the Dam wall. Then you will be taken on a scenic loop through the suburbs of Schoemansville and Ifafi and alongside the water front to Meerhof and towards the R511 main road. After this the route heads on past Jasmyn Farm Stall towards Saartjies Neck which is the first of the significant hills and encountered at approximately 16 kilometers.

On the other side of Saartjies Neck the route turns right crossing the N4 toll road and right again before it continues straight onto the R104 past Pelindaba towards Broederstroom where the R104 joins the R512. The route continues on the R512 towards Pecanwood Golf and Country estate. After a while, still on the R512 the route goes right across the westerly point of the dam and right again towards Commando neck, the second of the significant hills at around 42,5 kilometers. Over the hill the route goes onto the R513 at Damdoryn and back to the finish at Hartbeespoort Holiday resort.

It is the responsibility of each runner to know the route of their race. Traffic Police and race marshals will take all reasonable steps to ensure runners safety, however runners are responsible for their own well being at all times.

Finish Line

The finish line must be crossed to officially finish the race. At this point you will be timed by crossing the finish line. There are designated lanes and it is important to move through this area swiftly.

Cut – off

The race is run from mat to gun. Mat to mat times will also be available. Cut-off is 7 hours (13:00)

Runners who have not reached the following marks in the times specified will not be allowed to continue:

25km at 09:30

42,2km at 12:00

If you do not reach the cut-off points within the required time, you will be asked to retire from the Race and leave the road. YOU MAY NOT CONTINUE RUNNING.

Athletes who fail to obey the race officials will be subject to disciplinary action and may be banned from participation in the Old Mutual Om die Dam Ultra Marathon in future. Transport will be provided at all the cut-off points to take the runners back to the Finish.

Refreshment Stations

Nineteen well equipped refreshment stations along the route will ensure that every runners needs are adequately catered for.

Refreshments stations are approximately 3km apart up to the halfway mark and 2km thereafter.

Drinking water will be provided throughtout the race in 100ml plastic sachets (Booster Bags), while Coca-Cola will be served in paper cups. In addition, potatoes, bananas, chocolate, jelly sweets and other ‘morale lifters’ will be available at some stations.
